functional labs allow you to identify the root cause of conditions & symptoms

  • Do I need to run labs to work with you?

Absolutely not! While many people find functional labs are incredibly insightful, they are 100% optional. Some people find success without running labs at all, while others have deeper imbalances that need to be addressed. Regardless, I typically do not even recommend doing labs from the get go for a few reasons. First, they are expensive. Second, the labs are more useful once the foundation is already solid.

  • what is functional lab work and how does it differ from conventional labs?

Functional labs are used to understand root causes of conditions and symptoms, from a disruption in the gut microbiome to hormonal imbalances. Functional labs look at markers not typically covered in conventional labs and have a much narrower range for what is considered optimal.

  • what types of functional labs can i run?

The lab catalog on Rupa Health (where I order my labs) is comprehensive. Common labs include GI Map (or other gut tests), DUTCH hormone testing, and bloodwork. I am also able to order complete genome tests with gene-specific lifestyle recommendations. It is ultimately your decision which labs you would like to run, what will be most helpful will depend entirely on you, your symptoms/conditions, and your goals.

  • what comes after the labs?

After your labs come back, we will work together to understand your results and implement targeted diet and lifestyle changes. Sometimes this includes herbs and other supplements. I always encourage clients to share their results and lifestyle changes with their medical doctor.

As a certified health coach, I am able to facilitate ordering functional lab work through Rupa Health’s Physician Services. Here’s how it works:

  • I recommend the desired lab tests through Rupa.

  • An authorizing physician will review and approve your order.

  • You will pay and place the order directly on Rupa.

  • The results will be released to both of us at the same time.

I cannot diagnose or treat any medical condition nor can I directly interpret medical data. I can help you understand your results and guide you in implementing changes based on the results and diagnoses the laboratory has determined.

Unfortunately, labs ordered through Physician Assisted Services cannot be covered by insurance. However, some clients are able to place orders through their doctors and go over results with me. I am always happy to be part of a larger health team. If you have any questions about functional lab work not answered here, please contact me.
